About NAOMI
Naomi Tyler (she/hers/they/them) is an actor, director, writer and producer working between Boston MA and Providence RI in both theater and film.
With a BFA in Theater from the University of Rhode Island, Naomi has been pursuing acting and directing, primarily in Rhode Island for the last 3 years. Recent acting roles include Benedick in Much Ado About Nothing with Idle Hands Theater Collective, Karly in Wilbury Theatre Group’s production of Octet, Thetis in The Shield of Achilles (a New Work in development with Idle Hands), and Bottom the Weaver in A Midsummer Nights Dream at Stadium Theater, as well as The Witch and Bakers Wife in Into the Woods at URI and TPAC.
Naomi’s Directorial Debut took place in August of 2025, with the Taunton Performing Arts Center where she directed The Merry Wives of Windsor, also designing the set and costumes for the production. She followed up by Assistant Directing with the Wilbury Theatre Group’s staged reading of Heaven Above Rowen, an adaptation of a queer, indie film both written and performed by Alice Voena.
In spring of 2025, Naomi’s debut short film DUSK, starring Eddy Tavares and Tyler, premiered at the Block Island Film Festival, winning an award for Best Actress in a Student Film. This was followed by and award for Best Self Taught from the Austin Indie Film Fest. DUSK was written, produced, and co-directed by Tyler, who originally started writing the “kitchen scene“ to be filmed with friends on an iphone for reel. The script developed from there into an award winning short film, and a full feature script is in progress.
As a producer, Naomi co-founded Idle Hands Theater Collective alongside David Raposo in the Summer of 2025, and has since produced a multitude of productions ranging from variety shows (Idle Fest), to 24 Hour Plays, Shakespeares Much Ado About Nothing, and more. Why? Performers of all kinds lack the space to work, rehearse, mix mediums and create together, Idle Hands strives to provide that space.
